Mustangs take second place in Roger Ahlman Invitational

SAINT PAUL, MINN. – The Mustangs were on the road once again this weekend, traveling to Macalester College for their final meet before winter training. Morningside placed second among the five teams competing in the event.

Friday's session one started with the 400-yard medley relay of team Cody Natali, Caden Morton, James Camp, and Willy Pinnow placing second place with a time of 3:39.58.

Walker Goebel was the top Mustang in the distance events, swimming the 1650-yard freestyle with a time 18:23.10 for first place.

In the 200-yard individual medley, MK Mkhize swam a time of 2:03.06 for third place, Morton swam a time of 2:07.54 for sixth place, and Bradley Palmer swam a time of 2:10.06 for seventh place.

The 50-yard freestyle was the most stacked event of the night, and JR Albers and Camp represented Morningside well, both placing in the top five. Albers touched the wall at 22.22 for third place, and Camp touched the wall at 22.34 for fifth place.

To conclude the first session Albers, Mkhize, Goebel, and Pinnow completed the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:24.79, good for first place.

Saturdays' session two opened with the 200-yard medley relay of Natali, Morton, Mkhize, and Albers swimming into the wall with a time of 1:40.58 for third place.

In the 400-yard Individual Medley Goebel had another first place finish with a time of 4:32.36.

Cael Jensen touched the wall in fourth place with a time of 1:58.95 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Albers had a first place finish with a time of 54.24 in the 100-yard backstroke. Teammates Pinnow and Natali placed third and fourth with times of 55.61 and 55.70.

Camp swam a 51.10 in the 100-yard butterfly, with Mkhize and Nash finishing behind him in the top-10 spots.

Concluding the session for the Mustangs, Camp, Albers, Mkhize, and Pinnow finished first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.42.

Session three began with Goebel placing first with a time of 5:07.96 the 500-yard freestyle.

In the 100-yard freestyle Albers and Camp raced to the top five placing second and third with times of 48.19 and 48.39.

To conclude the meet, Morningsiders Albers, Mkhize, Camp, and Pinnow had another strong first place finish with a time of 3:13.78.

The Mustangs will return to competition in their home pool on Sat. January 21st for the Midland Dual.
