Mustangs find friendly waters at Iowa Lakes

EMMETSBURG, IOWA – Saturday, Nov. 5 the Mustangs hit the road for the Iowa Lakes Community College Invitational.

Morningside began the meet with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay of JR Albers, Caden Morton, MK Mkhize, and James Camp with a time of 1:41.67. Cody Natali, Gabe Marthaler, Matt Hanner, and Easton Gelinne touched the wall in fourth place with a time of 1:45.93.

Willy Pinnow had two second place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. For the 200-yard freestyle Pinnow touched the wall at 1:50.50, with Nash Perisho and Cody Natali behind him with times of 1:54.03 and 1:59.71. In the 500-yard freestyle Pinnow finished with a time of 5:06.32, and Walker Goebel came in with a time of 5:34.37 good for fourth place.

For the 50-yard freestyle the Mustangs placed in the top five with Camp touching the wall with a first place finish at 22.10. Cael Jensen and Jacob Haase finished in third and fourth with times of 23.31, and 23.46.

Morningside also had top five placings in the 100-yard butterfly. Goebel took second place with a time of 56.84, Perisho finished in fourth with a time of 58.20, and Hanner finished fifth with a time of 58.93.

Natali and Gelinne represented Morningside well, finishing in first and second place in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 57.67 and 59.47, nearly ten seconds ahead of Iowa Lakes competitors.
To finish the meet, Albers, Camp, Pinnow, and Mkhize swam the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.25, less than a second behind Iowa Lakes, for a second place finish. With a time of 1:35.46, Gelinne, Haase, Perisho, and Jensen placed third in the event.

The Mustangs will be racing in their home pool on Nov. 11 and 12 for the Mustang Invitational.
