Bio

Maxon has a 194-184-18 record in 20 seasons since starting the men's soccer program in 2001. It took just two years to produce a winning team when Morningside posted a 14-6 record in the 2002 campaign. He guided the Mustangs to five consecutive NAIA Region III playoff appearances (2003-07) and was named 2004 GPAC Coach of the Year after a 15-8 record, a share of the GPAC regular-season championship, and coming within one game of the national tournament.

In 2018, after four straight winning seasons, he Maxon the program to a 13-7-1 record and their first-ever appearance in the national tournament. The following season, Maxon guided the Maroon to their second GPAC title and a victory in national tournament action as part of an 18-4 finish in which he was tabbed conference Coach of the Year. His 2020 squad turned in another conference title, was a league postseason tournament runner-up, and gained a national tournament berth, as he registered his third GPAC COTY accolade.

Maxon also coached five seasons in the Premier Development League developing a regional finalist squad (1999 Sioux City Breeze) and a national final four (2001 Sioux Falls SpitFire) team. He holds a USSF ‘A’ License and is a 1988 graduate of the University of Southern Maine, where he had a standout soccer career, and earned his master's degree in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy in 1990.

Tom and his wife, Kerri, have two children, Jordan and Bailey, and reside in Morningside.
