SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Morningside University men's soccer team scored a season-high five goals Saturday, and recorded a clean sheet over Doane at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
Five different Mustangs scored goals in the 5-0 win over Doane, moving their Great Plains Athletic Conference record to 2-0-0 and overall record to 4-4-0.
Bennet Wesselkaemper got the scoring started for Morningside at the 18-minute, 7-second mark with a goal, assisted by Niklas Kneller.
At the 26:21 point, Jurre Thielen scored and Max Sickenberger earned the assist.
Yannik Vogel contributed to the next two Mustangs goals, scoring one unassisted in the 31st minute, then assisting on Mathias Constantinou's goal that came 63 seconds later.
Gustavo dos Santos had Morningside's lone goal in the second half, finding the net in the 60th minute. Constantinou recorded the assist.
Morningside outshot the Tigers 12-6, with nine of those from Morningside on goal. Both teams took four corner kicks.
Tim Teschner earned the win as goalkeeper, saving three Tigers shots in 45 minutes. Timon Koerber played in net during the second half. It's the second shutout of the season for Morningside, as the first one happened Aug. 31 vs. Kansas Wesleyan.
