Morningside registers nation-leading 23 scholar athletes

KANSAS CITY, MO. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its Daktronics Scholar Athletes for men's soccer this week, with the honorees being announced ahead of the national championship.

Morningside placed 23 men's soccer players on the list of nearly 1,000 total student-athletes, sharing the top spot for most athletes from an institution with St. Thomas of Florida. They are Abdullahi Yusuf, Abraham Ponce, Anders Staxen, Bennet Wesselkaemper, Bernardo Barbosa, Bjarne Huth, Constantin Tschernig, Gero Zarbo, Issa Aman, Jakob Fronmueller, Jesse Welfing, Johannes Lang, Jonas Markfoged, Jordy Kinss, Jurre Thielen, Levi Von Hagen, Marnix Van Exel, Matheus Lacerda, Mathias Constantinou, Max Sickenberger, Rafael Castilho, Robin Thomala, and Tesheta Kero.

In order to qualify for the NAIA scholar athlete program, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5, appear on a sport's eligibility certificate, and have attended one full year at the current institution.
