Men's soccer falls in GPAC quarterfinals

SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – It was Morningside's men's soccer team that tried its luck in the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament quarterfinals tonight, traveling to third seed Dordt for the contest. While the Mustangs did manage to get a goal across, ultimately they suffered the same fate that the women's team did the night before, falling 3-1 to conclude their season.

Morningside took a lead about a third of the way into the contest, when Yannik Vogel, with assists by Robin Thomala and Frederik Endahl, netted the game's first goal to give the Mustangs the lead.

Dordt used the score as fuel, answering quickly to end the half with an even 1-1 score before tacking on two more in the second half to move onto the semifinals.

Morningside's offense recorded 10 shots, led by Endahl, with three. Nine of the Mustangs' shots were on goal, With Endahl and Vogel each taking two.

Bjarne Huth faced a matching nine shots on goal, collecting six saves in the match.

The Mustangs conclude the season with a 4-8-7 overall record and a 3-2-6 conference mark.
