Morningside falls 4-0 in men's soccer.

Morningside fall to league-leading Hastings

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs had a chance to advance in Great Plains Athletic Conference play, but they would have to get past Hastings College's men's soccer team to do so. While Morningside was eager, it was unable to make up ground on the league-leading Broncos, falling 4-0.

Hastings launched into tonight's match with surgical precision, cutting through Morningside's defense to net the first goal and game winner before a minute had ticked off the clock. While the Mustangs were able to quiet the Bronco goal-scoring antics, it was clear that the visitors were going to be able to score if needed, running up a four-goal advantage before the match was over.

Morningside's offense, on the other hand, was smothered for much of the first half, suffocating with only a few gasps of air in the form of three shots in the opening period of play.

The second half saw a renewed effort from the Mustangs, playing with an energy that was absent in the first half. It looked like Morningside would have a chance to score, taking back-to-back-to-back corner kicks before the Broncos were able to clear the ball, stifling one of the home team's best chances to get on the board.

The Mustangs managed to get off 10 shots in the entire contest, including four shots on goal that registered as saves for Hastings' keeper. Robin Thomala had a pair of those shots on goal, with Frederik Endahl and Jakob Fronmueller picking up the other two.

Bjarne Huth recorded two saves while allowing the four scores for the visitors.

Morningside is on the road this weekend, traveling to Doane University in Crete, Neb. for a 3:15 p.m. contest on Oct. 1.
