Men's soccer plays to a draw with Northwestern, 0-0

Mustangs, Raiders meet in men's soccer draw

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Fans were certainly curious what the 2022 edition of the Morningside-Northwestern rivalry was going to look like, but few would have guessed that the latest meeting of perennial Great Plains Athletic Conference powers would have gone 90 minutes without a score.

That was, in fact, how this season's matchup played out, playing to a 0-0 draw under the year's new overtime rules. It's the second tie of the season for Morningside, going alongside a 3-3 draw with Grand View a couple weeks ago.

Reigning GPAC Player of the Week, Bjarne Huth, recorded a 90 minute clean sheet with two saves on the night, a stat line that makes it seem like the Mustangs' defense was nowhere near as active as it actually was.

On offense, Robin Thomala got off three shots, with one requiring the Raider keeper to smother it. Max Hartmann took Morningside's only other shot on goal.

The Mustangs are back on the turf of Elwood Olsen Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 25, when they play Viterbo's V-Hawks at 3 p.m.
