SIOUX CITY, IOWA – A wild, 90-minute back and forth battle between Great Plains Athletic Conference and Heart of America Conference powers left fans inside Elwood Olsen Stadium breathless at match end Wednesday, Sept 7.

Head coach Tom Maxon's Mustangs, looking to upend their second National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' ranked foe in the last three matches, attempted to do so with a disadvantage throughout. A pair of first half yellow cards leveled at junior midfielder Jonah Fischer (Molfsee, Germany) left the home side a man down for the remainder of the evening.

Before exiting, Fischer did find the back of Grand View College's net to open the scoring 16th minute. GVC responded with back-to-back set piece successes before senior forward Robin Thomala (Wisphausen, Germany) converted a penalty kick attempt to tie it at 2-2. The score remained that way until the visitors deposited a PK strike of their own less than 15 minutes from the end. As the clock ticked into the final minute, Mustangs fans on hand were brought to their feet when senior defender Jakob Fronmueller (Gerstetten, Germany) took a pass from junior forward Gero Zarbo (Berlin Germany) and slipped it past the visiting net minder for a 3-3 draw which is where the score wound up.

The final score was just part of the story of a dead-even match-up. Both sides tallied 11 offensive attempts with four on goal, and each team wound up with four corner kick attempts.

Maxon's crew takes to the road to begin the 2022 GPAC season Thursday, Sept. 15, with a 4 p.m. kickoff at Presentation College.
