Men's soccer collects first win of the season

PAPILLION, NEB. – Morningside's men's soccer team collected its first win of the season over no. 12 Bellevue University. The Mustangs outscored the Bruins 2-1 in the contest, netting two of their five shots on goal on the day.

Morningside struck first in the late afternoon contest, scoring in the 22nd minute as Jonas Markfoged beat the keeper to punch in the game's first goal.

The Mustangs held Bellevue scoreless through the entire first half, but not long after the intermission, the host team made it clear that they weren't going without a fight, scoring the equalizer in the 49th minute.

The teams would remain deadlocked until, with less than two minutes to play, Mathias Constantinou found Robin Thomala on a breakaway. Thomala slid, burying the game winner in the back of the net.

Bjarne Huth was the keeper of record for all 90 minutes for Morningside, collecting five saves and allowing one goal in the match.

Morningside is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 3, in a 2 p.m. contest against Waldorf.
