Cavanaugh leads Mustangs to home tournament championship

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Morningside University men's golf team defended its home course Tuesday by winning the two-day Mustang Derby, held at Whispering Creek Golf Club.

The Mustangs turned in a team score of 595, three shots ahead of Jamestown. The Mustangs were 19-over par. On Monday, Morningside turned in a 291.

Ryan Cavanaugh was the leading golfer for Morningside, as he was tied for second with a 36-hole score of 146. He shot even par on Monday with a 72, then carded 74 on Day 2.

Darragh McGrath finished tied for 12th with a score of 151, matching fellow Mustang Brock Lutterman, who played on the "B" team.

Finn Coull was one of four men who golfed 152, good for 17th. Pablo Colin was tied for 25th with Ben Brodin, both scoring 154. Brodin represented the "B" team.

Tyler Show was tied for 49th, earning a 162. His better round came Tuesday, shooting 75.

The final three "B" golfers for the Mustangs were: Jose Ricardo Martinez (25th, 154); Ariel Lev (T-34th, 156); and Jacob Taweel (T-47, 160). The Mustangs secondary group was ninth with a team score of 615.
