SIOUX CITY, IOWA – A three-pointer by Braden Dinkla with nearly 10 minutes to play in the second half pushed Morningside beyond the century mark against Governors State as the Mustangs opened Allee Gym for the season. Morningside would continue on to defeat the Jaguars 120-92.
The Mustangs outscored the Jaguars 73-45 in the first half, shooting a blistering 70 percent before cooling down to a respectable 40-of-66 by the time the final horn sounded.
Joey Skoff, the reigning Great Plains Athletic Conference offensive player of the week, made it clear that he was shooting to repeat, posting 30 points in 32 minutes of play. Brendan Buckley followed with 19, Aidan Vanderloo had 16, and Justin Sitti had 14. Alex Wilcoxson came off the bench in a big way, going 4-for-5 for 14 points. Daniel Brocaille also hit double digits, posting 13 points of his own.
Brocaille and Buckley led in the rebounds column, with seven each. Sitti had five boards and Preston Dobbs had four. Buckley dished six assists to lead all players in the contest.
