SIOUX CITY, Iowa – For the fourth time in six conference games, the No. 16 Mustangs eclipsed 100 points, defeating Midland 100-88 Saturday inside Allee Gym and the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.
The first half was close for a majority of the 20 minutes of play, but the Mustangs pulled away for a 46-35 lead. Jack Dotzler was a big part of the early lead, scoring 13 first half points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Ely Doble also had 13 points in the first half.
Midland didn't go away in the second half, getting back into the game by hitting nearly 60% of their shots and turning the ball over just five times. The Mustangs lead shrunk to four, but it was never a one possession game.
A large part of Morningside's ability to hold the lead came from hitting 7-of-13 shots from deep in the half. Joey Skoff led the team with 16 second half points.
Three Mustangs finished the game with 20 or more points, led by Skoff's 24 on 9-of-11 shooting. Dotzler also went 9-of-11 from the field, tallying 23 points and contributing six assists. Doble finished with 23 points, 11 of which came from the charity stripe, where he was 11-for-15 on the day.
Brendan Buckley totaled 10 points and eight rebounds. Justin Sitti distributed the ball well, dishing out seven assists to go with his eight points.
Morningside is 7-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. After taking on Bellevue at the Tyson Events Center Saturday night, the Mustangs head to Florida for a pair of games before Christmas.
