Morningside wins over Hastings 79-65

Solid win secures season sweep over Hastings

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Men's basketball's win over Hastings in Allee Gym today may not have been the flashiest win of the season. Instead, the Mustangs never trailed in a fundamentally sound outing, winning 79-65 in a fashion that the historical teams that have played on the court of Allee Gym since the late 30's would surely appreciate.

Morningside's stat line for the day saw the home team shoot better than 58 percent from the floor, including 46.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc. The Mustangs hit 16-of-18 free throws, and scored 19 points off of Bronco turnovers.

Ely Doble led the Mustangs in scoring, as the first of four Morningsiders to reach double digits checked in at 16 points. Joey Skoff followed with 14, Aidan Vanderloo had 12 off the bench, and Trey Powers had 10 points.

Powers led the way in rebounding, with eight, followed by Brendan Buckley with five, and Jack Dotzler, with four boards. Will Pottebaum had three and Doble had two.

Dotzler dished five assists, followed by Vanderloo, Pottebaum, Doble, and Buckley, with two each. Vanderloo had four steals, while Powers had two.

The Mustangs next head to Dakota Wesleyan, for a Feb. 15 contest at Mitchell, S.D.'s famous World's Only Corn Palace.
