Concordia fast start thwarts Morningside GPAC tourney advancement

SEWARD, NEB. – Second-seeded Concordia University scored 16 of the first 20 points in a Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal Wednesday, Feb. 23, and didn't look back.

Seventh-seeded Morningside University managed to keep itself as close as 10 in the second half. Still, the host Bulldogs went to their perimeter shooting arsenal at each comeback try and extended the margin again. Concordia, advancing to the semifinals of the league postseason tourney, went 15-of-33 from outside the arc compared to head coach Trent Miller's Mustangs connecting on seven-of-17 attempts.

Senior guard Zach Imig (Gretna, Neb.) concluded his star-studded collegiate career with a 20-point, nine-rebound, three-assist, two-steal outing inside the Walz Human Performance Center's Friedrich Gym. Sophomore guard Aidan Vanderloo (Sioux City, Iowa) (13 points) and junior guard Trey Powers (Omaha, Neb.) (12) also finished in double figures.

The 83-70 defeat closed out the Mustangs' 2021-22 slate at 14-12. It's the 20th year in a row that the program has produced 10-or-more victories.
