Late run subdues Mside

SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – Sophomore forward/center Ely Doble (Gretna, Neb.) turned in one of his best outings in a Morningside University uniform Wednesday, Feb. 2, but Dordt University still managed to sneak away with a Great Plains Athletic Conference victory.

Doble compiled his first collegiate double-double, posting 18 points on eight-of-12 field goal shooting, and grabbed 11 boards while dishing out an assist in front of a partisan Defenders' crowd at DU's DeWitt Gymnasium. With his play leading the way, head coach Trent Miller's squad overcame a shaky early start and led by as much as eight into the final four minutes.

However, the hosts managed to swing the pendulum one more in their favor, using a 13-4 stretch in the last 3:34 to secure a 75-74 victory. The loss dropped the Mustangs to 12-8 overall and 9-6 in the conference, tying Dordt and Northwestern for fourth place.

Sophomore guard Aidan Vanderloo (Sioux City, Iowa) and junior guard Will Pottebaum (LeMars, Iowa) scored 14 points apiece to bolster Mside's scoring column. Vanderloo added four rebounds, two steals, and an assist to his evening's resume.

Morningside looks to climb up the loop standings Saturday, Feb. 5, beginning three in a row at home. They welcome chart-topping Briar Cliff University to Allee Gymnasium of the Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center for a 3:45 p.m. start.
