Mside road conference win attempt thwarted

SEWARD, NEB. – Concordia University used a 27-8 run from the latter stages of the first half to the middle of the second frame to upend Morningside University Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Head coach Trent Miller's Mustangs battled the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' No. 25-ranked team tooth and nail early on inside Freiberg Gymnasium of the Walz Human Performance Center. A 13-2 roll turned a nine-point deficit to a one-point advantage with 3:58 to go in the opening half for the visitors. However, the Bulldogs answered right back with what proved to be the game-deciding stretch and didn't look back en route to an 83-68 Great Plains Athletic Conference win.

Sophomore guard Aidan Vanderloo (Sioux City, Iowa) topped Morningside's scoring chart. He tossed in 20 points behind nine-of-13 field goal shooting. Junior forward Trey Powers (Omaha, Neb.) also tallied double figures, posting 11 points off the bench with four rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Zach Imig (Gretna, Neb.) and sophomore forward/center Ely Doble (Gretna, Neb.) added eight points apiece, with Imig dishing out six assists.

Morningside (10-7 overall, 7-5 GPAC) winds up a two-game road trip Saturday, Jan. 22, with a 3:45 p.m. tip-off at Mount Marty University's Laddie E. Cimpl Arena in Yankton, S.D.
