Bench play sparks Mside as GPAC action continues

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The sophomore duo of guard Jack Dotzler (Omaha, Neb.) and forward/center Ely Doble (Gretna, Neb.) guided Morningside University Saturday, Jan. 1.

Dotzler drained three-of-four three-point attempts en route to an 11-point, four-assist, two-steal line at the University of Jamestown's Harold Newman Center. Doble was just as effective for head coach Trent Miller's squad, producing 16 points, seven boards, three assists, and three steals.

With those two getting on the floor for 20-point-plus minutes against the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' No. 12-ranked Jimmies, Miller's crew managed to hit the break with a five-point advantage (41-36). Unfortunately, past ghosts of UJ's home venue reared their head in the second 20 minutes, as the hosts scored the first 11 points and didn't look back, capturing an 82-70 Great Plains Athletic Conference victory.

Senior guard Zach Imig (Gretna, Neb.) and sophomore guard Aidan Vanderloo (Sioux City, Iowa) scored 10 points apiece. Imig had another impressive day adding five rebounds, dishing out three assists, and picking up two steals.

Morningside (8-5 overall, 5-3 GPAC) remained just a game out of first on the balanced standings despite dropping their third straight conference contest. The Mustangs stay on the road Saturday, Jan. 8, visiting Midland University for a 3:45 p.m. start.

NOTES: The defeat was the third in the last four meetings at Jamestown for the Mustangs … Imig's total moved him within three points of seventh on the program's all-time scoring list.
