Tough luck shooting plagues Mside

ORANGE CITY, IOWA – Junior guard Will Pottebaum (LeMars, Iowa) and sophomore forward/center Ely Doble (Gretna, Neb.) topped the scoring chart for Morningside University Saturday, Dec. 11.

Pottebaum tallied 13 points, and Doble added 10 points, as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' No. 18-ranked squad was upended 89-71 by Great Plains Athletic Conference Siouxland rival Northwestern College. The Mustangs, dipping to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the league with a second straight defeat, scored eight of the game's first 11 points on the NWC Bultman Center floor. However, a 17-4 Red Raiders run ensued from that point, and the home team didn't look back.

Morningside wound up over 40 percent overall and an icy 28.6 percent from three-point range. Northwestern was white-hot on the other end, especially from the perimeter knocking down 13 of 25 attempts from outside the arc.

The Mustangs travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for games against Peru State College and St. Thomas University of Florida Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17 and 18, as part of the Cruzin Classic.
