Four in double figures help send Morningside past Doane

CRETE, NEB. – An early 13-6 run proved pivotal for National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' No. 22-ranked Morningside University Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Locked in an early battle with a scrappy Doane University squad on its George and Sally Haddix Recreation Center floor, the two Great Plains Athletic Conference foes traded leads until sophomore guard Aidan Vanderloo (Sioux City, Iowa) and junior guard Will Pottebaum (LeMars, Iowa) fueled an 8-0 run from the 16:20 to 14:42 marks of the first half. From that point forward, head coach Trent Miller's crew built the lead seemingly at each turn towards an 82-67 GPAC victory.

Beyond the early roll, the Mustangs, improving to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the league behind their fourth successive triumph, had a balanced box score behind them. Vanderloo's 17 led the way, while Pottebaum, due to canning three treys, added 16. Senior center Trey Brown (Gretna, Neb.) recorded a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds to go with two blocked shots. Junior forward Trey Powers (Omaha, Neb.) added 11 points off the bench.

Morningside returns home to its Allee Gymnasium gym inside the Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center Wednesday, Dec. 1. Game time against Concordia University is set for 7:45 p.m.
