Scintillating Send-Off - Season's third 100-point-plus outing concludes home regular season

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – You couldn't have written a better finish to the home regular-season careers of one of the most successful classes in Morningside history.

Head coach Jim Sykes' Mustangs, paying tribute to student coaches Kyle Kommes (LeMars, Iowa) and Jackson Lazzo (Olathe, Kan.) along with Ben Hoskins (SR/Wayne, NE ) (Wayne, Neb.), James Maher (SR/Mead, CO) (Mead, Colo.), Trystan Cummins (SR/Ankeny, IA ) (Ankeny, Iowa), Alex Borchers (SR/South Sioux City, NE ) (South Sioux City, Neb.), Matt Hahn (SR/Fremont, NE ) (Fremont, Neb.) and Tyler Borchers (SR/Le Mars, IA ) (LeMars, Iowa) prior to tip-off, kept the celebratory spirit inside of Allee Gymnasium and the Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center going long after. The top-ranked Maroon, improving to 25-2 overall and 17-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, hit a white-hot 63.5 percent from the field which included hitting 53.3 percent from outside the arc. The visiting Jimmies of the University of Jamestown didn't make things easy on their hosts in the first 20 minutes leading by as many as seven (30-23) before the home side, much to the delight of the capacity crowd, went on a 22-6 run over the final 7:16 and didn't look back. Mside's fans hit a fever pitch in the second half when the Mustangs posted 66 points to close out a 111-85 triumph.

While four Morningside players ended in double figures, two of them stood tallest. Junior guard Zach Imig (JR/Gretna, NE ) (Gretna, Neb.) was an assist shy of a rare triple-double, going for 28 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists while missing only two shot attempts (11 of 13). Hahn was right beside him, also scoring 28 and did so with eight long-range bombs that brought the house down. Tyler Borchers (12 points, eight rebounds, one blocked shot) and Hoskins (11 points, three three-point baskets) rounded out the double-figure list.

The Mustangs conclude their 2019-20 regular-season schedule at Northwestern College Saturday, Feb. 22. Game time is 4 p.m.
