Unbeaten string runs to nine, Mside topples Midland

FREMONT, NEB. – A 25-6 run that occurred during the midway point of the first half helped send Morningside College to a Great Plains Athletic Conference road win Wednesday, Dec. 4.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' No. 2-ranked Mustangs enabled the key stretch by shooting a blazing 68.9 percent from the field over the opening 20 minutes at Midland University's Wikert Events Center. After a back-and-forth first five-minutes plus, head coach Jim Sykes' squad pushed a 14-13 edge out to 39-19 and didn't look back.

Mside, improving to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the league, finished off a 92-66 victory with five players totaling double figures. Three tied for the points lead, as senior guard Alex Borchers (SR/South Sioux City, NE ) (South Sioux City, Neb.), junior guard Zach Imig (JR/Gretna, NE ) (Gretna, Neb.), and junior center Trey Brown (JR/Gretna, NE ) (Gretna, Neb.) each tallied 14. Brown's play off the bench was especially eye-popping, as he wound up two rebounds shy of a double-double and added three assists and two blocked shots. Senior forward Ben Hoskins (SR/Wayne, NE ) (Wayne, Neb.) and freshman guard Will Pottebaum (FR/LeMars, IA) (LeMars, Iowa) rounded out the double-digit individuals, as Hoskins was red-hot from outside the arc, hitting four of five attempts, for 12 points, and Pottebaum ended with 11 points.

The Mustangs return home to Allee Gymnasium in the Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center on Saturday, Dec. 7. It's a crosstown league showdown against Briar Cliff University with a 6 p.m. tip-off.
