Season Sweep - Mside runs win skein to eight

YANKTON, S.D. – A warm breeze pushed Morningside north toward Mount Marty College and Yankton, S.D. on Saturday afternoon as the Mustang men were hoping to pick up another win over the team that relaunched their winning streak. The Mustangs were victorious, though by a much slimmer margin of 68-56.

Morningside traded blows with Mount Marty throughout the first half of the game with the Mustangs taking the lead for good with just over a minute left to play thanks to a Tyler Borchers (JR/Le Mars, IA ) jumpshot.

Morningside held the lead for the entire second half, though that's not to say that it was always safe. Mount Marty had the lead shaved down to two points as the clock approached the four minute mark. Zach Imig (SO/Gretna, NE ) went to the charity stripe with 4:00 on the clock and sank both of his free throws. Brody Egger (SR/Urbandale, IA) and Tyler Borchers did the rest of the scoring for either team, collecting the last eight points in the game.

The Mustangs were led in scoring by Tyler Borchers with 20 points. Egger added 16, with Imig and Matt Hahn (JR/Fremont, NE ) wrapping up the double digit scorers with 11. Trystan Cummins (JR/Ankeny, IA ) led the reserves with six points.

Borchers and Hahn were each a rebound shy of reaching a double-double, collecting nine caroms each. Trey Brown (SO/Gretna, NE ) collected eight rebounds after coming off the bench.

Morningside shot just shy of 36% from the field, making 20 of 56 baskets. It went 5 of 29 from beyond the three-point arc while hitting 23 of 30 free throws. The Mustangs had 40 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks and turned the ball over just six times in the contest.

The GPAC leading Mustangs advanced to 22-1 overall and 15-1 in the conference. They're back in action on Wednesday, February 6 at 8:00 p.m. when the Concordia Bulldogs visit Allee Gymnasium and the Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center.
