Sterling Stampede - Mside extends remarkable string

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The number 90 continues to be a favorite for Morningside College.

Head coach Jim Sykes' Mustangs, improving to 19-1 overall and 12-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, reached the magical destination for a fifth straight contest Thursday, Jan. 24. Ranked No. 3 on the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Division II poll, the Maroon broke away from a 13-13 tie at the 14:51 mark of the first half, compiling a 17-0 run and not looking back in route to a 98-64 victory in front of a happy home crowd at Allee Gymnasium inside the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.

At every turn, the home team numbers were impressive. Mside hit better than 53 percent from the field, drained 16 three-point baskets, and finished with all five starters scoring in double figures. Junior forward Matt Hahn (JR/Fremont, NE ) (Fremont, Neb.) was at the forefront, scoring 21 points, his second 20-point-plus total in the last four contests, as he canned seven three-pointers. His evening's output didn't stop on the scoreboard, as he dished out a tri-team high five assists and grabbed six rebounds.

Senior guard Brody Egger (SR/Urbandale, IA) (Urbandale, Iowa) was next on the points chart, finishing with 16 which included four treys. Junior forward/center Tyler Borchers (JR/Le Mars, IA ) (LeMars, Iowa) and sophomore guard Zac Imig (Gretna, Neb.) were just a rebound off of twin double-doubles, as Borchers tossed in 13 to go with nine boards, and Imig wound up with 12 points and nine rebounds and five assists. Junior guard Alex Borchers (JR/South Sioux City, NE ) (South Sioux City, Neb.) rounded out the double-digit parade with 12 points to go with five assists.

The Mustangs' current homestand resumes Saturday, Jan. 26. It's a clash of top 20 Division II and league foes with No. 17 Dakota Wesleyan University visiting for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
