Marching On - Mside picks up 19th straight regular season victory

MADISON, S.D. – An 18-0 run in the middle stages of the first half proved to be the key for a Morningside College win Saturday, Dec. 15.

Head coach Jim Sykes' Mustangs, moving to 12-0 overall with a 19th straight regular-season victory, rolled past Dakota State University out of the North Star Athletic Association 95-60. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Division II No. 2-ranked squad produced another balanced points' attack with four players, three of which added big positives off the bench, in double figures.

Junior forward Matt Hahn (JR/Fremont, NE ) (Fremont, Neb.) guided Morningside with 15 points. Junior guard Pierce Almond (SR/Grand Island, NE ) (Grand Island, Neb.), showing off his long-shot skills, canned four three-pointers in route to 12, while sophomore forward/center Trey Brown (SO/Gretna, NE ) (Gretna, Neb.) added 12 and grabbed five rebounds. Junior forward Ben Hoskins (JR/Wayne, NE ) (Wayne, Neb.) closed out the double-digit parade with 11.

The Mustangs offense enjoyed the DSU Memorial Fieldhouse, hitting to the tune of over 55 percent from the field and better than 51 percent from beyond the arc. Morningside also out-boarded their hosts 28-17 and committed just 11 turnovers in 40 minutes.

Morningside heads to the sunny shores of Hawaii for a pair of contests in the Hoop 'N Surf Classic Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 19 and 20. They face off against the Concordia University of Michigan each day.
