Mustang men triumph in top 20 tussle

HASTINGS, NEB – Morningside's men's basketball team wrapped up a stretch of four road games with a resounding win over the Hastings College Broncos, 104-73. The Mustangs advanced to 9-0 on the season with its 16th straight regular season victory in a streak that stretches back February 3, 2018, the last time these two teams met.

Morningside never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early lead thanks to a Brody Egger (SR/Urbandale, IA) three-pointer, followed by one for Alex Borchers (JR/South Sioux City, NE ). The lead was whittled down to as few as two in the contest, and stretched out to 36 with just over a minute remaining to play.

The Mustangs were led on the floor by guard Alex Borchers, who came up with 23 points, helped by four baskets from three-point land. He was followed by Zach Imig (SO/Gretna, NE ) and Tyler Borchers (JR/Le Mars, IA ) with 17 each, and Egger with 13. Morningside's bench kicked in to the tune of 30 points.

Tyler Borchers' 17 points pushed him over the 1,000 point mark for his Morningside career and into the Mustangs' top 30 scorers with 1,013 points. Egger moved up to number 10 on the same list.

Morningside was perfect from the charity stripe, going eight-for-eight, and was 41 of 68 from the field. The visitors had 39 rebounds in the contest and eight steals.

The Mustangs look to continue their winning ways when they return to Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 8:00 p.m
