Sunday Stampede - Maroon move to 7-0

FREMONT, NEB. – Four of five Morningside College starters tallied points' double digits, as the Mustangs wrapped up their appearance at Midland University's Draemel Classic Sunday, Nov. 25.

Sophomore guard Zach Imig (SO/Gretna, NE ) (Gretna, Neb.) guided the scoring parade and more for head coach Jim Sykes' squad. He finished with a personal single-game career high 21, converting on 10-of-13 attempts, and also was among the team leaders in assists (seven), rebounds (six) and steals (three). Senior guard Brody Egger (SR/Urbandale, IA) (Urbandale, Iowa) was next in line for the Mustangs with 19 points.

After a wild and wooly first 20 minutes in which Morningside and Dakota State University combined for 94 points, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' preseason number four ranked squad put the clamps on defensively, surrendering only 31 points in the second half. The road to a 7-0 record was finished with 54 of their own in a 104-75 final.

Mside's first triple-figure scoreboard total since December 2017 didn't stop with the resumes of Imig and Egger. Sophomore forward/center Trey Brown (SO/Gretna, NE ) (Gretna, Neb.) came off the bench and nearly produced a double-double in just 14 minutes, winding up with 15 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Matt Hahn (JR/Fremont, NE ) (Fremont, Neb.) added 14, and junior forward/center Tyler Borchers (JR/Le Mars, IA ) (LeMars, Iowa) turned in 11 points, eight boards and a blocked shot.

The Mustangs take a 14-game regular season win string on the road for a Great Plains Athletic Conference battle with Concordia University of Nebraska Wednesday, Nov. 28. Game time is 8 p.m.
