Morningside's all discipline win streak moves to three
Morningside College's Overwatch Esports squad improved to 4-2 with a 3-0 win over Bradley University's Team 2 Wednesday, Oct. 21.
"We worked hard throughout the week to incorporate new comps and strategies, which paid off," assistant coach Quinton Charbonneau said. Spencer Stall (FR) (Fort Collins, Colo.) was named series Most Valuable Player.
According to Charbonneau, during Map One (Illios), Morningside was as hyped as ever for their favorite map, and it proved as they won a clean 2-0 running a long-distance poke composition. For Map 2 (Kings Row), the team defended first, getting a good hold just before Bradley could capture point two. On attack, Morningside set out to use a tried and true Symerta strategy, which worked flawlessly as they took the first point and most of the second point without much resistance from Bradley to earn a 2-1 win.
Map 3 was a second-time pick of Horizon Lunar Colony, which is rarely shown in the competitive scene. "It was during this map that we saw a role change between a few of the players," he noted. "Off Tank Keonte Robertson (NA) (Watertown, N.Y.) swapped to DPS, DPS Ayden Taylor (NA) (Elkhorn, Neb.) swapped to Main Healer, and Main Healer Jorden Presnall (NA) (LeMars, Iowa) swapped to Off Tank."
The strategy proved successful. The Mustangs defended first and stalled the first point to nearly overtime before losing the fight and holding the second point with no ticks given to Bradley. On attack, another Symetra strategy was used to gain Point A quickly before quickly taking Point B. Morningside won 2-1 on Horizon Lunar Colony, giving them the overall victory to put their record 4-2.
Morningside's Esports weekly schedule continues Thursday, Oct. 22, when Valorant aims unbeaten Amarillo College of Texas' AC Badger team at 8 p.m. League of Legends is back in action Friday, Oct. 23, taking on Wester Illinois University, also at 8 p.m.
