Mustangs drop two close games Sunday

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Morningside University baseball team took two tough losses Sunday to Concordia at Bishop Mueller Complex.

Concordia defeated the Mustangs 4-2 in Game 1, and then 6-5 in Game 2.

Both of the Mustangs (22-8-1, 9-5 GPAC) runs in the early game came off sacrifice plays. Jacob O'Dell drove in Sam Wilt off a sacrifice fly in the second inning, while in the fourth inning, Kade Yasui scored Luke Blackmon on an infield groundout.

In Game 2, the Mustangs scored two in the third and fourth innings, then one more during the sixth inning of the nine-inning contest.

Michael Delzell put the Mustangs on the board with a two-run home run that also scored Yasui. Yasui then contributed a two-run single that scored courtesy runner Kaleb Bleil and Wilt.

Wilt led off the sixth inning with a triple, and O'Dell wasted little time bringing him home with a single for the fifth run of the game.

Yasui and Wilt had two hits in the nightcap.
