Blackmon walkoff leads way to series split

ORANGE CITY, IOWA – A two-out double for Ryan Kiolbassa set the table for a Luke Blackmon walkoff single in the bottom of the eighth to give Morningside a win in game no. 1 of today's Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader. The 7-6 win was followed with a 10-5 that featured nearly an hour and a half of weather delay.

Wind assisted home runs would be the bane of the Mustangs' outing as Josh Pratt got the start in the day's opener, giving up a pair of wind-aided bombs. Kai Purdy-Burton would suffer the same fate in his 3.2 innings, while a defensive effort by Giacomo Crosetti kept another in the yard, but went in the books as an RBI triple.

The winds would figuratively shift Morningside's way as the Mustangs came back to tie game one in the seventh inning and take the win in the eighth.

Sam Hanson got the win in the doubleheader opener, striking out four in two complete innings.

Blackmon tallied four RBIs on the day. Michael Snyder had three across the two games, including a two-run blast.

Morningside is back on the diamond on Tuesday, traveling to Bellevue for a non-conference contest at 4 p.m.
