Mustangs split series at Concordia

SEWARD, NEB. – Morningside butted heads with the no. 24 team in the country for the second day straight, splitting a doubleheader for the second day in a row. The Mustangs dropped the day's opener again, 11-4, before winning the finale 7-5.

Alex Calabrese was the leader at the plate for the Mustangs, collecting a pair of hits and driving in a run. Elijah Rude had one hit, a home run for three runs, and Cade Nolan launched a pinch hit home run over the right field wall. Eddie Brancato had a pair of hits including a double.

Aiden Bishop was the starter for the Mustangs, throwing six complete innings while giving up six hits and five runs. Bishop struck out three in the outing.

Josh Pratt took over in relief of Bishop, going 1.1 innings while surrendering just one hit, and Logan Warkentin had a 1.2 inning save, striking out three and giving up one hit in the process.

Calabrese had a pair of hits and two RBIs in the day's opening game, Brancato had three hits, and Bishop had two hits and an RBI. 

The Mustangs will head to the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament next week, entering the field as the no. 3 seed.
