Morningside defeats Doane 4-0, 7-1

Canaday, Bishop throw gems in MercyOne Field debut

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Starting pitching was on display for the Mustangs in the final two games of the Doane series as Morningside's starters went the distance in 4-0 and 7-1 wins, finally opening Lewis and Clark Park and MercyOne Field for the season. 

Wade Canaday threw seven shutout innings as he moved to 5-1 on the season, scattering four hits across the outing while striking out 11 batters.

Hunter Hope, Eddie Brancato, and Alex Calabrese each had two-hit games, as Hope, Calabrese, Jayson Willers, and Carter Ades each knocked in runs as Hope, Calabrese, Ryan Kiolbassa, and Aidan Agosta came around to score. Agosta took over on second base as a pinch runner for Elijah Rude. Brian Garcia had a stolen base in the outing.

Not to be outdone in the nightcap, Aiden Bishop scattered six hits across his seven innings, allowing one earned run and striking out eight. 

Kiolbassa, Rude, and Nick Grajeda all had two-RBI games, while Willers drove in one. Brancato and Zach Hefty both came around to score twice, while Kiolbassa, Garcia, and Ades each scored once. 

Morningside is back on the diamond tomorrow, competing in a single nine-inning game at Bellevue.
