Mside offense continues early-season advances in Florida opener

AUBURNDALE, FLA. – Sophomore infielder Eddie Brancato (Arlington Heights, Ill.) bashed a pair of doubles and drove in three runs, and junior catcher Jayson Willers (Davenport, Iowa) and sophomore infielder Aiden Bishop (Lincoln, Neb.) added three RBI apiece, leading Morningside University Monday, March 7.

The beginning of the 2022 Sunshine State trip for head coach Adam Boeve's squad didn't see a let-up in recent offensive trends. The Mustangs, improving to 8-1, slugged 12 hits against Judson University pitching and scored multiple runs in each at-bat as part of a 14-3, six-inning victory. This season, it was the fifth time that Mside scored 10-or-more runs in a game.

Willers and Bishop joined Brancato in the extra-base hits parade. Willers also produced a double, and Bishop homered to help spark the run-support for winning hurler Will Brandner. The sophomore from Worthington, Minn., halted an early Eagles' run-scoring counter, shutting them down on one hit and striking out six over three innings after Judson pushed across two in the first.

Morningside continued its Florida trek with a pair of games against Cornerstone University of Michigan Tuesday, March 8.
