Mustangs battle highly-touted Bellevue in extra-innings finish

BELLEVUE, NEB. – Despite a tough-luck 1-0 loss to North Star Athletic Association perennial power Bellevue University Tuesday, March 30, the recent roll that Morningside College was on continued to be in the air.

The Mustangs, sporting a 9-6 record since beginning the 2021 campaign with a 4-12 mark, served notice to future opponents with a hard-nosed effort at Roddy Park. Head coach Adam Boeve's team turned to six pitchers who kept a Bruin offense hitting a solid .260 as a team coming in to just eight hits while fanning 11 home team hitters during the program's first extra frames contest since 2017. Freshman starter Wade Canaday (FR/Marshalltown, Iowa) (Marshalltown, Iowa) and junior bullpen ace Jordan Kyle (JR/Lake Park, Iowa) (Lake Park, Iowa) each turned in three Ks.

At the plate, the Maroon picked up five hits of their own. Freshman outfielder Hunter Hope (FR/Sioux City, Iowa) (Sioux City, Iowa) registered a two-hit night, continuing a recent hot streak where he's hit safely in six of his last seven appearances. Hope added a double to his evening's resume, too.

Mside steps back into Great Plains Athletic Conference action Friday, April 2. They travel to Dordt University's Open Space Park Field in Sioux Center for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
