COLUMBIA, MO. – Senior infielder Jordan Pierce (SR/Carlisle, Iowa) (Carlisle, Iowa) upped his hit streak to 16 consecutive games, and freshman infielder Wade Canaday (FR/Marshalltown, Iowa) (Marshalltown, Iowa) turned in a pair of two-hit contests to guide Morningside College Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7.
Pierce, remaining as the Mustangs' leader in batting average (.414), delivered safeties in all three match-ups against host Columbia College. His weekend effort included a triple in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader. Canaday was just as key for the offensive attack generated by head coach Adam Boeve's squad, going two-for-three in the opener and two-for-four in the finale. Canaday also provided a power source with two doubles and a home run.
Mside, despite falling to 4-12 with 3-1, 10-7, and 5-4 losses at the hands of the Cougars, who moved to 8-2 and have been receiving votes on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics coaches poll. Freshman southpaw Caleb Thomson (FR/Libertyville, Ill.) (Libertyville, Ill.) registered a sparkling start in game one, striking out five and allowing only five hits and two earned runs over six innings. Canaday added to his batting prowess with a nine-strikeout, seven-inning effort Sunday.
The Mustangs continue Spring Break 2021 action Monday and Tuesday, March 8 and 9, with nine-inning games against Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Baker University. Game times are 5 p.m. Monday and 1 p.m. Saturday at BU's Sauder Field.
