Valley Visit - Fall season opens

Morningside College's 2019-20 season begins in earnest Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 and 6.

The Mustangs take on Valley City State University in a series that features one nine-inning game on Saturday and a pair of seven-inning contests Sunday. Game times are 4 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday at Charlie Brown Memorial Field in Valley City, N.D.

Live statistics and video for all three match-ups can be followed through links at www.msidemustangs.com, the Internet home of Morningside College athletics.

Mustang Marks: Head coach Adam Boeve's team has taken a slightly different approach to the fall this season. "We've had to," he noted. "We're gearing up for six games that count. It's been a good experience as it gets our guys into the mode of a January-early February sense of work to get ready for a regular-season compared to just going through practices and then having intrasquad games.

"I want our players to be able to have as many opportunities as they can in college baseball," he added. "One of those is playing a full schedule which includes countable fall dates. We dipped our toe into the water (in regards to the fall last season), but we wanted to do something more. The team is really excited to play games that matter to finish up this section of our season."

Morningside has five players returning from 2019 that earned all-Great Plains Athletic Conference honors. Senior catcher Dylan Gasner (SR/Austin, MN ) (Austin, Minn.), sophomore pitcher Colby Seuntjens (SO/Danbury, IA) (Danbury, Iowa), junior Camden Parks (JR/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.), junior outfielder Levi Davidson (JR/Dakota City, NE) (Dakota City, Neb.) and senior infielder Nic Metcalf (Sedro Wooley, Wash.) each picked up honorable mention honors. "We've got seven individuals back who saw significant position playing time and some returning pitching added in there," Boeve pointed out. "We've still had competition for virtually every area (this fall), and I'm excited to see what everyone does this weekend."

Fall Closer: Waldorf University pays a visit to Sioux City for a weekend set Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 and 13.
