Tournament Time - Regular season finale split moves Mside into postseason

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Concluding its 2019 home season with a flourish, Morningside College earned one of the eight "golden tickets" into the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships Sunday, April 28.

Head coach Adam Boeve's Mustangs used the trio of pitching staff arms of junior Billy Mount (SO/Burbank, S.D.) (Burbank, S.D.) and seniors Spencer Wyant (SR/Sergeant Bluff, IA) (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) and Elliot Conover (SR/Remsen, IA ) (Remsen, Iowa) to hold down visiting Dakota Wesleyan University to only two earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in game one of a loop twin bill at Lewis and Clark Park's Mercy Field. The Maroon offense managed to back up Mount's first win in a Mside uniform by collecting six hits and taking advantage of three Tiger errors to claim a 5-4 victory.

Looking to move into the postseason on a five-game win streak, they were thwarted by visiting starter Gavin Reichmuth's impressive eight innings of one-run, three-hit ball, as DWU was a 6-1 winner in game two. Senior Shea Patterson (SR/Council Bluffs, IA ) (Council Bluffs, Iowa), who along with classmates Conover and Wyant were three of the seven Class of 2019 graduates honored before the twin bill, made his last appearance at Mercy Field one to remember with three hits and a run scored, while junior Sam Huska (JR/Windom, MN) (Windom, Minn.) added two hits and drove in the lone run.

Morningside (26-17) is part of the conference tourney section at the University of Jamestown's Jack Brown Stadium Thursday, May 2, through Saturday, May 4. They take on the host Jimmies in their first match-up Thursday at 6 p.m.
