Plate Production - Mside continues offensive roll

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – With the calendar picking up speed to the 2019 postseason, Morningside College needed their final home and regular season homestand to start on a high note.

It did that and more Friday, April 26.

A trio of juniors played key roles in the opener. Austin, Minn., native Dylan Gasner (JR/Austin, MN ) blasted a two-run home run, and Windom, Minn., residents Sam Huska (JR/Windom, MN) and Devin Nielsen (JR/Windom, Minn.) sparked a six-run sixth inning rally with a pair of two-run singles to lead the way to an 8-4 Great Plains Athletic Conference victory over Midland University. The home crowd tucked in behind the Mustangs' dugout at Lewis and Clark Park's Mercy Field had more reason to cheer in game two. Morningside, improving to 25-16 overall and 13-12 in the conference, rallied from a 6-3 deficit through three and a half with an 11-run outburst over the fourth through seventh frames for a 14-6 victory. Three Maroon student-athletes registered three hits each, as sophomores Levi Davidson (SO/Dakota City, NE) (Dakota City, Neb.) and Carter Kratz (SO/Vermillion, SD) (Vermillion, S.D.) joined Huska, who wound up with a four-hit, four-RBI evening over 14 innings, in doing so.

The combined 22-run, 24-hit attack was more than enough for head coach Adam Boeve's pitching staff. Senior Aaron Homme (SR/Papillion, NE ) (Papillion, Neb.) struck out nine to highlight his second league complete-game effort of the year in game one. To lock up the sweep, sophomore Camden Parks (SO/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) turned in a glittering five and a third innings out of the bullpen, limiting the Warriors to one hit and striking out six to earn his first collegiate win.

Morningside concludes its home and regular season slate Sunday, April 28. Dakota Wesleyan University is the opponent for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

NOTES: Mside scored eight-or-more runs in a game for the ninth and 10th times in their last 15 contests. Their record in the span is 9-1.
