Jamestown staves off Mustangs in GPAC weekend set

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Morningside College's recent power surge showed no signs of slowing down Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20.

The Mustangs belted eight home runs and 10 doubles during a key road trip to the University of Jamestown's venerable Jack Brown Stadium. The two figures increased a potent span for head coach Adam Boeve's squad, as they've hit at least one round-tripper in 10 of their 13 last contests and registered at least one two-bagger in all but five games this season.

Despite the offensive production, it wasn't enough to stop the Jimmies from making the most of their first homestand. Jamestown rallied back in each of the first three meetings winning 5-4, 6-2 and 11-9. Boeve's bunch managed to dash a sweep for the hosts with a 10-run ninth inning in the final match-up Saturday that led to a 16-9 win. Junior Nic Metcalf (JR/Sedro Wooley, WA) (Sedro Wooley, Wash.) led the attack with seven hits, two of which were long balls, in 12 at-bats for a monstrous .583 average that included eight RBI. Sophomore Levi Davidson (SO/Dakota City, NE) (Dakota City, Neb.) and junior Sam Huska (JR/Windom, MN) (Windom, Minn.) added to the visiting highlights, as they each personal hit streaks to six games with Davidson doing so with three straight two-hit efforts.

Mside (23-16 overall, 11-12 Great Plains Athletic Conference) begins a five-game homestand to wrap up the 2019 regular season Tuesday, April 23. Northwestern College is scheduled for a single nine-inning game at 5 p.m. at Lewis and Clark Park's Mercy Field.
