Game two offensive attack paces split

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Five Morningside College hitters tallied multiple-hit outcomes Sunday, April 15, to ensure a Great Plains Athletic Conference game two victory over Doane College.

To the delight of the home crowd settled in their seats at Lewis and Clark Park, sophomores Carter Kratz (SO/Vermillion, SD) (Vermillion, S.D.) Jordan Pierce (SO/Carlisle, IA ) (Carlisle, Iowa), and Levi Davidson (SO/Dakota City, NE) (Dakota City, Neb.) joined junior Sam Huska (JR/Windom, MN) (Windom, Minn.) and senior Shea Patterson (SR/Council Bluffs, IA ) (Council Bluffs, Iowa) to tally two hits each against DC pitching. Huska belted a home run out of Mercy Field and drove in three, while Patterson also finished with three RBI and doubled.

The 13-hit roll over seven frames allowed freshman southpaw Colby Seuntjens (FR/Danbury, Iowa) (Danbury, Iowa) to compile his first collegiate complete-game decision. He struck out five, allowed only one walk and was touched for just one run on five hits, as head coach Adam Boeve's squad claimed a 12-1 win.

Hoping to keep pace with conference-leading Concordia University of Nebraska and second-place University of Jamestown, Mside's attempt at a sweep was knocked aside by the Tigers. The visitors rallied from a 3-1 game one deficit with two in the fifth and one in the eighth to sidestep the Maroon 4-3, as the pitching tandem of Jordan Ritzdorf and Austin Narro combined to allow only one earned run on five hits with eight strikeouts added in.

Morningside (20-11 overall, 10-7 GPAC) continues league play Monday, April 15. They travel to Concordia University for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.

NOTE: Mside's game two victory continued an impressive program streak. They reached 20-or-more victories for the 13th successive campaign.
