Singin' In The Rain - Mside winds up unbeaten weekend

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Rallying back from a six-run deficit Saturday, April 6, Morningside College moved into the Great Plains Athletic Conference top four.

Sophomore Carter Kratz (SO/Vermillion, SD) (Vermillion, S.D.) collected three hits, and the duo of sophomore Levi Davidson (SO/Dakota City, NE) (Dakota City, Neb.) and junior Nic Metcalf (JR/Sedro Wooley, WA) (Sedro Wooley, Wash.) tallied two RBI each to lead the comeback. Visiting Hastings College of Nebraska jumped out to a 6-0 advantage through two and a half innings before the Maroon scored eight runs over their next three at-bats.

Another rock-solid relief pitching effort ensured Morningside's 19th victory. Sophomore Jake Cera (SO/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) and seniors Spencer Wyant (SR/Sergeant Bluff, IA) (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) and Elliot Conover (SR/Remsen, IA ) (Remsen, Iowa) limited the Broncos to a run on two hits over the final five and third innings. Hastings attempted a seventh-inning rally of its own, loading the bases and pushing a run in before Conover put the finishing touches on his fourth save in support of Wyant's fourth victory with a strikeout.

After dodging the raindrops late in game one, the second match-up succumbed to the weather being postponed later in the evening.

Morningside (19-10 overall, 9-6 GPAC), only a half-game out of third and a game and a half separated from second, is scheduled to meet up with loop leader Concordia University of Nebraska Friday, April 12. First pitch at Plum Creek Park is 3 p.m.
