Bellevue edges Mustangs

BELLEVUE, NEB. – Sophomore Levi Davidson (SO/Dakota City, NE) (Dakota City, Neb.), freshman Nic Metcalf (Sedro Wooley, Wash.), senior Andrew Kasperbauer (SR/Sioux City, IA ) (Sioux City, Iowa) and sophomore Jordan Pierce (SO/Carlisle, IA ) (Carlisle, Iowa) each produced multiple-hit outings, guiding Morningside College in non-conference action Tuesday, April 2.

Metcalf topped the quartet who tallied two hits apiece, as he doubled and drove in two runs for head coach Adam Boeve's squad. Davidson, Kasperbauer, and Pierce also added two-baggers against the host Bellevue University Bruins of the North Star Athletic Association. Even with those efforts in place, it wasn't enough for the Maroon to overcome the Bruins in a narrow 5-4 defeat.

Mside answered a 3-1 first inning deficit with single runs in the second and third to forge a 3-3 tie. However, BU came back with two more in the third and managed to hang on for the remainder of the nine-inning clash at East High School. Senior relief pitcher Spencer Wyant (SR/Sergeant Bluff, IA) (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) kept the Mustangs in striking distance over the final five frames with seven strikeouts and no hits allowed.

Morningside (16-10) returns to Great Plains Athletic Conference action Friday, April 5, with a doubleheader at Northwestern College. First pitch is 5 p.m.
