Mount Marty sidesteps Mside

YANKTON, S.D. – Freshman Nic Metcalf (FR/Sedro Wooley, WA) (Sedro Wooley, Wash.) homered among a two-hit second game plate effort, while Mount Marty College starting pitcher Blake Svoboda crafted a game one no-hitter in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Sunday, March 31.

Morningside College's visit to MMC's Bob Tereshenski Field at Riverside Park was filled with tough-luck offensive situations in a 5-0, 3-2 doubleheader defeat. Despite the opening game no-hitter, head coach Adam Boeve's squad had multiple runners on in the sixth and seventh and couldn't convert, while it was more of the same in game two as the Maroon had the tying run in scoring position in the fifth and ninth frames but couldn't knot the score up.

The Mustangs pitching performances were solid, too. Senior Aaron Homme (SR/Papillion, NE ) (Papillion, Neb.) went the distance in game one, and the bullpen trio of sophomore Camden Parks (SO/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.), senior Tommy Johnson (Aurora, Colo.) and senior Spencer Wyant (SR/Sergeant Bluff, IA) (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) kept the visitors within striking distance in game two by blanking the home side on two hits over four innings.

Morningside and Mount Marty wrap up their conference series Monday, April 1. First pitch at Lewis and Clark Park is 2:30 p.m.
