
Women's tennis gets win in GPAC opener
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs picked up a big win in their women’s tennis Great Plains Athletic Conference opener today, blanking Hastings 7-0.
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs picked up a big win in their women's tennis Great Plains Athletic Conference opener today, blanking Hastings 7-0.
Morningside quickly secured the doubles point in the match as Kailee Bailey and Stefany Simplicio won 6-2 and Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall won 6-3. The no. 3 doubles pair of Sophia Guntren and Lidia Suarez completed the doubles sweep with a 7-6 victory with a 7-4 tiebreaker.
The Mustangs built upon the momentum from doubles as they kept Hastings off the team scoreboard in singles play. Bailey was the first to finish her match, winning 6-1, 6-1. Jensen followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, and Marshall pushed through 6-2, 3-6, and 6-4 sets to clinch the match.
Simplicio added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at no. 4, Guntren followed 6-2, 6-4 at no. 5, and Suarez completed the sweep 6-0, 6-2.
Morningside heads to Concordia on Thursday, getting underway at noon in Seward, Neb.
