
Women's tennis falls to no. 10 Westcliff at NAIA Championships
MOBILE, ALA. – The reigning Great Plains Athletic Conference women's tennis champions' season came to a close on the national stage today, as the Mustangs fell, 4-0, at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women's Tennis National Championship in Mobile, Ala. to the no. 10 team in the country, Westcliff.
The Warriors set themselves up for an easier evening as they took the upper hand in the match by taking the doubles point. Annika Meisel and Jil Hellerforth fell in the no. 2 match 6-2 and Emily Clotfelter and Macy McDonald lost the no. 3 match 6-0. Delfina Stuzynska and Line Jensen held a 5-4 advantage when Westcliff secured the point.
In singles play, Stuzynska fell 6-0 before digging in and pushing for a 6-4 loss. Clotfelter fell 6-1, 6-2 and Lidia Suarez fell 6-2, 6-1. When play was suspended, Line Jensen had forced an 8-6 tiebreaker in a 7-6 loss and trailed 4-3; Hellerforth was down 6-2, 5-0; and Meisel was down 6-4, 4-2.
Morningside concludes its season 18-4 as the GPAC regular season and postseason tournament champions, marking the third time the Mustangs have claimed both GPAC trophies.
