
Mustang women take GPAC Tourney title in 4-0 victory
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – Morningside punched its ticket to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women’s Tennis National Championships courtesy of a 4-0 victory over Midland, defeating the Warriors for the second time this week. The Mustangs’ victory comes 10 years, to the day, after Morningside’s women claimed their first Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament title.

The Mustangs' victory comes 10 years removed from Morningside's first Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament title.
The Mustangs got started on the right foot as Jil Hellerforth and Annika Meisel won no. 2 doubles 6-4. Line Jensen and Delfina Stuzynska followed with a 7-5 victory in the no. 1 slot to take the doubles point. Emily Clotfelter and Macy McDonald were locked in a 5-5 battle when doubles play was suspended.
Jensen made quick work of her opponent as the teams moved to singles, winning 6-2, 6-3. Lidia Suarez followed suit in the no. 6 slot, winning 6-0, 6-1, and Meisel mounted a comeback after falling 4-6 in set one as she drove the final nail with 6-3 and 6-2 victories.
Hellerforth had the upper hand, leading 5-3 in set three when her match was suspended.
The Mustangs now prepare for NAIA nationals, played May 14-18 in Mobile, Ala.
