
Women's tennis takes GPAC title over Midland
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – The stakes were high as Morningside and Midland clashed in women’s tennis, with the Great Plains Athletic Conference title and no. 1 seed in the postseason tournament on the line. The Mustangs came out on top, winning the match and the conference 5-2.
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – The stakes were high as Morningside and Midland clashed in women's tennis, with the Great Plains Athletic Conference title and no. 1 seed in the postseason tournament on the line. The Mustangs came out on top, winning the match and the conference 5-2.
Morningside's victory came on the strength of five singles victories, led off by Line Jensen with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Delfina Stuzynska won a 6-3, 7-6 victory courtesy of an 8-6 tiebreaker in the no. 3 match. Annika Meisel pushed the needle Morningside's way with a 6-1, 6-3 victory, and Jil Hellerforth locked up the Mustang win, coming back 6-3 and 6-4 after losing her first set 2-6.
Lidia Suarez added a cherry on top, picking up a 6-1, 6-2 victory to push Morningside to a 5-2 lead.
The Mustangs will play as the no. 1 seed in the GPAC tournament beginning on Thursday, April 25, with their match beginning at approximately 1 p.m. against the winner of no. 4 Mount Marty and no. 5 Doane.
