
Strong core leads to success at KCAC Championship meet
ELKHART, IND. – Morningside’s women’s swimming program displayed an all-around effort as it competed in the 2024 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held in Elkhart, Indiana Feb. 8-10. The Mustangs had five relays and five individual events place in the top 10 spots in the meet.

Individually, a seventh-place effort from Lexi Carey in the 1,650-yard freestyle was the high finish for Morningside, as the freshman finished the nearly mile-long race in 19:05.93. Carey also placed no. 8 in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:11.40 and no. 10 in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:32.93.
Carey was part of three of the Mustangs' five top-10 finishing relays, collecting a seventh-place finish with Josie Dike, Grace Holzerland, and Haley Snawerdt in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:19.96) as well as eighth-place finishes in both the 400-yard medley relay (4:17.96) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:47.39).
Dike and Holzerland teamed up with Olivia Ramaeker and Kaylee Barlow for a no. 8 finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.83) and with Ramaeker and Snawerdt for eighth in the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 4:17.96.
Holzerland had her own ninth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:37.72, while Dike was in the top-10 in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 54.71.
