Trio of goals lift Mustangs over Chargers

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — A balanced attack carried Morningside to a 3-1 victory over Briar Cliff in women's soccer Wednesday night.
After falling behind early, the Mustangs (5-1-2, 2-1 GPAC) found their rhythm late in the first half. Trinay Garcia provided the equalizer in the 37th minute, finishing off a pass from Sami Murray.
Morningside controlled the second half and struck quickly after the break. Liadan Kavanaugh scored the go-ahead goal in the 50th minute, and just four minutes later Keyera Harmon extended the lead with her third goal of the season. Tuva Hammarlund assisted on Harmon's strike .
The Mustangs finished with 12 shots, five of them on goal, and generated five corner kicks. Garcia, Kavanaugh and Harmon each tallied goals, while Hammarlund and Murray added assists. Goalkeeper Moriah Dixson played all 90 minutes and made two saves .
Morningside's defense shut down Briar Cliff in the second half, holding the Chargers without a shot attempt.
