SIOUX CITY, Iowa — An early strike wasn't enough as Morningside fell 3-1 to Hastings in women's soccer action Saturday night at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
Tuva Hammarlund gave the Mustangs (3-1-2, 0-1 GPAC) a dream start, scoring in the first minute off a pass from Melissa Tsatiris. That goal stood through halftime, as Morningside outshot Hastings 8-3 in the first 45 minutes and generated three corner kicks. The Mustangs finished with a 16-11 edge in shots, led by Keyera Harmon's eight. Hammarlund recorded two shots on goal in addition to her tally. Sophie Heine, Mia Stoffel and Sami Murray also tested the Broncos with chances on frame.
In net, Moriah Dixson collected five saves while facing eight shots on goal.
The Mustangs turn their attention to Briar Cliff next, as the two Sioux City programs will kick off at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Olsen Stadium.
